How to create tasty solutions

Do you feel stuck sometimes choosing between two options, neither of them you like?

This often happens when we have a problem and we perceive the only available solutions are binary, all or nothing choices.

Journalist Graham Hill gave a TED talk on how he struggled to stop eating meat, knowing what he did about the impacts of farming on the environment and eating meat on your health.

He grew up in a hippy family and wanted to do what he saw as the 'right thing' and stop eating meat but his taste buds and mind were in conflict over the solution. He saw his only choices as binary. Eat meat as he liked and feel bad about it or not eat meat and miss the taste of it.

His solution: Become a Weekday Vegetarian. He blended the two original solutions to come up with a third way that satisfied his taste buds and his mind. He would nothing with a face on a weekday then it was his choice on the weekends.

He embraced the solution because he felt it was win/win.

If you feel stuck choosing a solution to a problem where you only see a choice between two opposites, do what Graham did and see if you can blend parts of them together to give you a more tasty option.
