How US music producer Rick Rubin overcomes mental blocks

Overcoming mental blocks is something Rick Rubin has helped famous musicians do for decades. Rick’s a world-renowned US music producer who’s worked with the Red Hot Chilli Peppers, AC/DC and Eminem and is the author of the best-selling book about the creative process, The Creative Act.

In his book, Rick explains, that to him, mental blocks are just made-up stories we tell ourselves that create fear. Once we have fear attached to a story, we freeze up.

To overcome these fears, he tells himself whatever he’s doing right now is just for him.. It’s just like a diary entry no one else will see. No one can tell you your diary entry sucks. It’s just for you. He says this thinking removes the fear attached to a mental block and allows your creativity flow again.
